Chrysler Building. Sadly, you can’t go up the building because there’s no observation deck up top. And you can only go as far as the lobby if you don’t work in the building. π I got some photos, but they really didn’t turn out so good. By this time, my aunt and cousin had to split off to go pick up the bike my cousin’s using for the 5-Burroughs Bike tour she’s riding in tomorrow. Charlie and I walked over to Time Square where I received a healthy dose of disillusionment. Times. Square. Is. Very. VERY. Crowded. There’s lots to see there to be sure, but DAMN. Way too many people. I did get some good pictures there though. π These will be posted soon, I promise. I’ll get them posted after I get back home and have a considerably faster network connection to my web server. The highlight of the day was going up to the Top of the Rock, the observation deck at the top of the GE (RCA) building. I took a LOT of photos from up there. It was like being up on top of the world. Unlike the Sears Tower, where you’re in a fairly small glass room, here you’re on TOP of the building looking out over the city below. The view is actually quite spectacular from that high up, and surprisingly enough, it just felt SOLID up there. I was thinking to myself that the Sears Tower didn’t feel that solid, open, or inviting. Then again, the Sears Tower is considerably taller than the GE building. For dinner, we went to Amy Ruth’s in Harlem for some southern comfort food. It was YUMMY! I had a waffle with bacon, and mac & cheese. This mac & cheese was made much the same way that my folks made it for me while I was growing up. With more cheese. π It was very good. After dinner we took a cab ride back to Susan’s place. That was quite an experience. You’ve never had a cab ride (in the US) unless you’ve taken a cab in New York City. Lane markers are optional. So is the speed limit. And only the 7-sided stop signs are actually enforced. It was an exciting ride, yet very comfortable at the same time. And it was over all too soon. We got back home about 10:00pm, and here I am finishing up this web entry. I’m VERY tired – not quite accustomed to walking such distances. Tomorrow will be much more walking and public transit. We’re going to see the Statue of Liberty and taking a tour of Ellis Island. It should be good, and I’m sure I’ll take another 300 photos. That’s all from me for now. Just a short entry today. Thanks for visiting and Keep Coming Back!!!]]>
They could shore put a lotta’ hay in some of them big tall buildings, couldn’t they?
Ol’ Dad
Yep. Sadly, I didn’t get out to the Statue and Ellis Island today – it was raining all day, and the tours have been sold out through Wednesday. π We ended up going to Trinity Church, American Stock Exchange, NYSE, WTC ground zero, One World Financial Center, the Apple Store on 5th Ave, and Central Park. We’re going for pizza here as soon as Susan gets home.
