Digging For The Truth about the Angkor Empire. Instead of centering the episode entirely on Angkor Wat, they went into detail about the entire Angkor Empire. It was absolutely fascinating how technologically advanced the Angkor were. It was very cool. It also reminded me that many years ago, I saw images of the temple Angkor Wat and thought, “Ya know, I’d really like to visit that place someday.” And in thinking about it this evening (morning… whatever), I realized that Angkor Wat is one of the few places outside of my own comfort zone that I’d really like to visit. Why is it outside of my comfort zone? Well, First is that wonderful war in Southeast Asia known as the Vietnam Conflict. Second is the history shortly after that, the ever-wonderful Khmer Rouge, and the fact that as far as I knew (yes, this is showing how uninformed I am), there was still a considerable amount of conflict in the region. Cambodia has always seemed like a country full of unrest to me. To be fair, my first memories of anything from the area was in 1979, going to school with an influx of refugees from Laos and Cambodia. I wasn’t entirely sure what was going on, but I did know that people were fleeing for their lives from these countries, so they couldn’t really be nice places, could they? I know that the country is a *much* better place today. Maybe one day I’ll be able to take a holiday to visit the region. It is, after all, one of the few places at the very top of my wish list of places I’d like to visit during my lifetime. Anyway, that’s it for me. I should have been in bed about two-plus hours ago. Thanks for visiting and Keep Coming Back!!!]]>
