this article, there will be no APIs released for the iPhone. If you look at my previous post, you’ll see that I would like to replace my Treo 680 with the iPhone, but would need a few “killer” apps to go with it. While I’m saddened by the news, I’m not really surprised. Apple’s been long known for keeping a tight hold on stuff, even if their mantra lately has been one of freedom. Since the phone syncs with iCal and Address Book, 60% of my PDA usage is negated. Add in the fully-featured web browser, and you’ve got all the things I needed the eReader for (Fanfiction!). The only other thing I’d really want would be a fuel usage tracker, and I’m pretty sure I could write something along those lines. Palm Fuel Log is open source, so there may be a web version of it available somewhere. Worse comes to worse, I can learn MySQL, PHP, and CGI and write a web-version of my own. Having an interface for quicken… Well, I could probably go back to just entering the receipts in by hand at the end of each day. (Kind of like I don’t do now anyway >.< ) Either way, I did just spend $425 on my new Treo 680. I won’t die if I don’t have the iPhone right away. I do, however, have a standing offer from somebody to sell it to if or when I buy the iPhone.]]>
