this guide, I was able to get my li’l powerbook apart, slap the new drive in, and get going again. YAY! Well, sort of. It turns out that when you take a drive formatted for a completely different mac and drop it into another mac, the new machine gets… cranky. So I had to remove all thirty-six screws again, pull the drive, and wipe it completely before putting it back in. Once back in, the machine started working again, and I started the install. Only when it started having errors at 1 minute left to go did I notice that I’d left two screws out. SO… Time to pull the machine back apart just to put the two misplaced screws back. Fortunately, I only needed to remove thirty screws. Another format and reinstall later, and the laptop is back up and running like a champ! I’ve got lots of storage in this thing now, and the drive is noticeably faster. It should help the performance of this li’l thing last me for about another year before I get a new MacBook or MacBook Pro. Some of you might ask why I didn’t mention the MacBook Air as a possible replacement. Well, it’s extremely thin, true, but it shares the same footprint as the MacBook. Simply put, it’s huge. I was hoping for something with a form factor similar to my 12″ powerbook, but it’s bigger than that. Yes, I got to see it at MacWorld Expo SF this past friday, and yes I’ll put the pix up. But I was disappointed that it was so darn large. I like my 12″ machine’s size. It’s perfectly portable. It does everything I want it to do, and it’s small enough not to get in the way when I’m on the road. Idunno. I give the MBA another hardware release before I’ll consider it. (Granted, I might all of a sudden come into wealth and have cash to burn, so I might just eat these words…) For now, I’m sticking with my current mac laptop. It’s much later than I thought now. I’m going to log off and go to bed. Good night! Thanks for visiting and Keep Coming Back!!!]]>
Sounds like fun! (NOT!)
